What DEFINITLY Not to Wear

The decision to get married by the sea with a Florida destination Beach Wedding. What’s next?

The dress!

This is where you can have so much fun! A wedding dress is a big deal. It says so much about who you are. You don’t need to sacrifice style for functionality when it comes to your beach bridal trousseau. No way!

Dresses that are appropriate for the beach are often gorgeous creations of comfort and simplicity. And nothing really says “class” like a simple, elegant design.

A light, cotton, flowing frock or a simple white sundress would move with the breeze and give you an ethereal look that those church brides would kill for. Don’t believe me? Why do art directors add fans to fashion shoots if the “wind blown” look wasn’t so in?

Yards and yards of tulle and organza is not only impractical it’s really hot (and not in the “Wow, you look so hot!” way.) While lovely, a dress that is ornately adorned and frothy would be pretty uncomfortable to slog along a 40 foot make shift aisle.

KISS is a great acronym to keep in mind when choosing your dress for a beach wedding. Keep It Simple Stupid. Just keep that in the back of your mind while dress shopping. I’d hate to bring your mother-in-law back into this but, if you want to feel comfortable and at ease on your big day, this is the battle you should win.

If you’re “married” to the idea of a veil you really need to think about the elements you may have to deal with. A short veil would work much better than something that trails along behind you. However, a longer veil would make for spectacular photos. It’s a tough call. Many brides love the veil and wouldn’t think about walking down the aisle without one. Just keep in mind that a stiff ocean breeze could play havoc with your headdress so maybe having a contingency plan would be a good idea.

Finally, the feet. You’re not limited to flip flops. There are myriad of lovely footwear that you can choose for the beach. If you’re set on high heels, satin works best. The sand doesn’t stick to the satin and with just a kitten heel you could still walk and look like you’re wearing Christian Loubetian. Regardless of what you choose to wear make sure you accessorize with the smile of a blissfully happy bride.

That’s what everyone will remember from your Florida destination beach wedding.
